Pairin to invoke Article 6 of PBS constitution against saboteurs

KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said he would invoke Article 6 of the party's constitution, in his capacity as Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president, against any party leader or member, particularly at the division and branch levels, found to be involved in sabotaging the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the just-concluded general election. 

He said this was deemed necessary as preliminary reports suggested that saboteurs were the main cause that contributed to the defeat of the party's candidates (in some areas) and the slim majority of the winning candidates. 

Pairin, who won both the Keningau Parlimentary and Tambuan state seats in Sunday's general election, said he was waiting for a full report on the matter before taking action against the saboteurs. 

"We must be firm on this matter...we will not tolerate saboteurs. Preliminary reports also suggest that those who have won with a slim majority could have garnered a bigger majority if not because of these saboteurs," he told reporters after chairing a meeting with the party's candidates, here today. 

Article 6 (ii) (a) of the constitution of PBS states that "any member who wittingly applies or declares himseft to be a member of another political party or otherwise acts or conducts himself howsoever which is likely to be detrimental to the interest of the party or any of its division shall forthwith cease to be a member of the party. 

In the May 5 general election, PBS, a state BN component party, was allocated five Parlimentary and 13 state seats. 

For the Parlimentary election, BN candidates from PBS captured Tawau, Kota Marudu, Batu Sapi and Keningau but lost to DAP in Kota Kinabalu. 

PBS suffered unexpected losses to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) for the state seats of Tamparuli, Kadamaian, Matunggong, Inanam, Api-Api and Sri Tanjong but survived the opposition's onslaught in Tambunan, Kiulu, Tandek, Kundasang, Labuk, Melalap and Tanjung Aru.

Sabah is autonomous state

TAMBUNAN: Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, the Barisan Nasional (BN) incumbent for Keningau and Tambunan, urged the people of Sabah and Sarawak not to allow themselves to be influenced by the opposition’s “Borneo Agenda versus Malaya Agenda” ploy into thinking Sabah has no autonomy and not in charge of its own future.

He said the opposition are getting more desperate in their attempt to gain political power and have resorted to pitting the Borneo states against Peninsular Malaysia, hoping to take advantage of the strong sentiment they are trying to create from it.

The caretaker Deputy Chief Minister said Sabah has its own privileges as a member of the Federation of Malaysia, with the power to govern the state lying in the hands of its own people. Contrary to what the opposition have been claiming, he said Sabah is an autonomous state and decides its future.

Every decision affecting the state and its people are done freely by the State Cabinet, whose members are the representatives elected by the people, Pairin said.

“As such, the people must not let themselves be played by the opposition the Borneo Agenda and Malaya Agenda.

“We have autonomy, we have our own cabinet led by our chief minister, we have our own ministers, assistant ministers. Sarawak too has the same privilege, only our two states have this,” he said.

“One thing for sure, we in Sabah had made a decision in the past. We have been committed in administrating our own state. We make our own decisions through our own Cabinet and the future of our people is in our own hands,” he said when officiating at the closing of Karaoke Competition and Prize Presentation in conjunction with the Tambunan Tataba Unity Wave Sports Carnival at Pisompuruan Square here.

Pairin admitted there were still a lot that had to be done by the government in meeting the needs and expectations of the people in Sabah. But the government realized this fact and understood clearly that bringing progress and satisfying the aspiration of the people was a continuous commitment, he said.

In this regard, he said the government had continuously set in place proactive and forward looking programmes to ensure a better future for Sabah, in addition to addressing the current needs and issues faced by its people.

“There are a lot more things that the people need us to do, many more need to be explored. This is a continuous process included in the government agenda.

“The Government Transformation Programme introduced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is part of this agendas, and it has significantly benefited the people. Let us all give undivided support to this commitment of BN Government in ensuring a better future for the people,” he said, calling for the people to retain BN and allow it to continue with its development programmes for the state and country.

Four PBS Branches Not Dissolved

KOTA KINABALU : Matunggong Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) divisional chief Sarapin Magana has denied that the four party branches in Matunggong have been dissolved. 

He said the four branches at Kg. Inukiran, Kg. Tinukadan, Kg. Lompozou and Kg.Penampang are still intact although three heads of the branches have left and joined Pakatan Rakyat (PR) through Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). 

He said Marajam Sidin who claimed to be the head of PBS branch Kg. Lompozou is only an ordinary member in the branch as Jendah Mangantad is the head of the branch. 

"The four branches are still intact and it is only the presumption of those three heads of the party branches that the four branches have dissolved. 

"In fact, majority of the members including the main committee members are still supporting the party and only the three heads of the branches - Yasungki Taboh, Yawasang Kuhing and Masiung Mubin, and one Marajam left the party," he said, here, Monday. 

Sarapin, who is also the incumbent Matunggong assemblyman, said this to Daily Express in response to a Monday report that four PBS branches in Matunggong were dissolved on Saturday, with their leaders citing loss of confidence in the party's leadership. 

Sarapin said the concerned three heads of the party branches failed to hold annual general meetings in their respective areas last year which showed they did not have commitment. 

"These leaders who left the branches are acting emotionally and based on personal interest without thinking of the consequences and continuation of the party especially Masiung Mubin who was among the recipients of a longhouse in Kg.Penampang. 

"I am disappointed with his action because he should be grateful that his need to be a recipient of the longhouse was fulfilled. I also do not know his real motive in leaving the party branch in Kg. Penampang," he said. 

On Jornah Mozihim's move to join the opposition, Sarapin said it is not a big loss to the party. 

He said the former Matunggong assemblywoman should be grateful as the central party leadership had appreciated her by being appointed as the Political Secretary of the Community Development and Consumer Affairs Ministry when she was not renominated to be candidate in the 2008 General Election. 

"It was a first time in Matunggong that any former elected people representative had ever been given the Political Secretary post. 

"Jornah should be proud and take pride in that. In fact, I was made to understand that the party central leadership had assured that Jornah's post would be retained during the party's meeting before making the announcement of the candidates for the party," he said.

Yee in five-cornered fight will retain Api-Api

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai will face a tough battle in defending the N. 15 Api-Api state seat in a five-cornered fight in the 13th general election.

Yee, 57, who has consecutively been elected as Api-Api state assemblyman three times since 1999, will be contesting against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Liew Chin Jin @ Christina Liew, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Datuk Wong Yit Ming, State Reform Party Sabah Chapter (STAR) Dr Felix Chong Kat Fah and independent candidate Marcel Jude Joseph in the state constituency.

“This is a tough battle. I need to face many opposition parties who are attacking from all sides.

“I hope the voters will have the intelligence when casting their votes for us to continue to serve the people for a more prosperous society and nation,” he said in an interview after the nomination at Dewan Maksak here, yesterday.

Yee’s nomination was proposed by Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice president Datuk William Chu Fui Khin, 65, and seconded by Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association chairman Fung Chun Fatt.

Yee was elected as the MP for Tanjong Aru for two terms, from 1995-2004, the MP of Kota Kinabalu from 2004-2008, and Api-Api state assemblyman for three terms, from 1999-2013.

He has been the deputy president of PBS since 1994.

Yee has five children, including three sons and two daughters with his spouse Datin Lai Nyat Yin.

His working experience includes being a medical doctor in various hospitals while in the UK prior to returning to Sabah, serving at the Medical Practitioners Defence Society and Medical Protection Society of London UK, lawyer at Messrs. Dr Yee Tan & Associates, Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology since 2004, and Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah since April 2011.

His academic background includes a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from University of Wales College of Medicine in United Kingdom (UK), Bachelor of Laws (Hons) LLB (Hons) from University of Wales College of Wales in UK and Barrister at Law from Lincoln’s Inn in UK.

He was also the Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Legal and Forensic Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians UK, and was admitted on February 18, 1992 as the advocate and solicitor of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak.

In addition, Yee achieved Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards (JCI TOYM) in 1995.

Masyarakat Cina Keningau masih perlukan Pairin Kitingan

KENINGAU: Masyarakat Cina di daerah ini masih menyokong Presiden Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan dikekalkan sebagai calon Barisan Nasional (BN) bagi kerusi Parlimen Keningau. 

Kapitan Cina Daerah Keningau Liew Ket Lim berkata, kepimpinan Pairin masih diperlukan di kawasan ini khususnya Parlimen Keningau bagi meneruskan agenda pembangunan yang telah dirancang di kawasan ini yang merangkumi DUN Liawan, Bingkor dan Tambunan. 

Katanya, masyarakat Cina di kawasan ini masih memberi sokongan kepada Huguon Siou itu kerana ia mampu memimpin bukan sahaja masyarakat KDM tetapi juga semua kaum di negeri ini khususnya di kawasan Pedalaman termasuk masyarakat Cina. 

“Kita melihat kepada kepimpinan yang disukai oleh semua kaum dan bukan mengukur kepada usia dan tempoh perkhidmatannya,” katanya kepada media di sini kelmarin. 

Tambahnya, seseorang pemimpin bukan diukur dengan kelanjutan usia tetapi apayang penting adalah karisma dan ketokohannya sebagai pemimpin. 

Liew memberitahu, kawasan Parlimen kini mempunyai lebih kurang 6,000 pemilih masih memberi sokongan yang padu kepada Pairin. 

“Kalau pun Pairin tidak seratus peratus mendapat sokongan daripada masyarakat Cina di kawasan ini tetapi sokongan masyarakat Cina secara keseluruhannya adalah masih memihak kepadanya jika diletakkan sebagai calon BN pada PRU 13 ini,” jelas Liew. 

Sementera golongan muda di kawasan ini turut memberi sokongan agar Huguon Siou masyarakat KDM itu dikekalkan sebagai calon BN bagi kerusi Parlimen P.180 Keningau. 

Penolong Setiausaha Pemuda PBS N.34 Liawan Christopher Chin berkata, kepimpinan Pairin masih diperlukan bagi memastikan halatuju masyarakat KDM secara keseluruhannya di landasan yang betul. 

Katanya, harapan masyarakat KDM khususnya golongan muda masih disandarkan kepada Pairin sebagai seorang pemimpin yang telah banyak melalui pengalaman dalam arena politik. 

Ketua Pemuda PBS Bingkor Tinus Majip turut sependapat dengan Liew dan Christopher bahawa pemimpin agung KDM itu wajar dikekalkan sebagai calon BN bagi kerusi Parlimen P.180 Keningau. 

Katanya, bukan sekadar mahu Pairin dikekalkan sebagai calon tetapi sokongan masyarakat KDM di kawasan ini masih memihak kepada bekas Ketua Menteri itu.

Selain masyarakat KDM, rupanya masyarakat Cina Keningau juga turut memberikan sokongan padu kepada Pairin Kitingan. Dengan sokongan padu seperti ini, mampukan adik kepada Hugian Siou iaitu Jeffrey Kitingan merampas wilayah abangnya? Bullet yakin, jika diadakan satu lawan satu pun, Jeffrey tetap akan berputih mata. Pairin, bukan setahun dua mewakili penduduk keningau, malah sudah berpuluh tahun.. Terlalu banyak sumbangan beliau kepada masyarakat di daerah itu.

Samada PRU13 ini benar-benar menjadi pilihanraya terakhir untuk Pairin atau tidak, yang penting sokongan padu perlu terus diberikan kepada Huguan Siou ini. Jangan biarkan daerah yang sekian lama dibangunkan hasil sentuhan beliau (Pairin), dirampas oleh parti pembangkang.

PBS, PBRS dan UPKO setuju kaji semula kad pengenalan di Sabah

KOTA BELUD: Pertubuhan Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Bersatu (Upko) daerah ini, menyokong penuh cadangan presidennya, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, supaya semua kad pengenalan yang dikeluarkan di Sabah dikaji semula. 

Timbalan Ketua Bahagian, Ewon Benedick berkata, langkah itu adalah untuk memastikan hanya rakyat Sabah yang tulen mendapat kad pengenalan baru yang akan dikeluarkan. 

Beliau berkata, cadangan itu yang dibuat oleh Dompok semasa pelancaran Gelombang Tataba di Hongkod Koisaan KDCA, Penampang baru-baru ini adalah idea terbaik untuk menyelesaikan secara tuntas pemberian dokumen kenegaraan secara haram. 

“Kami amat menghargai komitmen kerajaan pimpinan Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak untuk menyelesaikan masalah pendatang asing tanpa izin di Sabah melalui penubuhan Suruhanjaya Siasatan Diraja (RCI) dan cadangan Dompok seharusnya dijadikan sebagai satu rekomendasi oleh RCI,” katanya. 

Beliau berkata demikian ketika ditemui selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat UPKO CLC Kadamaian, di sini, kelmarin. 

Ewon turut memberi sokongan kepada Presiden Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Tan Sri Pairin Kitingan dan Presiden Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Tan Sri Joseph Kurup yang turut bersetuju dan sama-sama memperjuangkan cadangan itu secara bersama dalam Barisan Nasional. 

“Dompok telah menginisiatifkan satu penyelidikan komprehensif mengenai pemilikan dokumen kenegaraan haram dan pendatang asing tanpa izin di Sabah, sesuatu yang tidak pernah dilakukan sebelum ini. Beliau sudah bersedia membentangkan laporan penyelidikan sebanyak 25 jilid kepada RCI dan juga kerajaan,’ katanya. 

Katanya lagi, hasil penyelidikan tersebut mendapati banyak insiden pendatang asing memperolehi kad pengenalan melalui cara yang tidak sah oleh pihak tidak bertanggungjawab termasuk pegawai Kerajaan. 

Ewon yang juga Ketua Komulakan UPKO berkata, “tiada sesiapa pun harus takut untuk membuktikan ketulenan sebagai warga Sabah yang sebenar”. 

“Sebagai tanda sokongan kepada cadangan ini, kami di UPKO Kota Belud bersedia menjadi kumpulan pertama untuk menyerahkan MyKad sekarang ini agar latar belakang kami turut diselidiki sepenuhnya sebagai orang asal Sabah. 

“Kita harus sedar bahawa ancaman keselamatan sudah pun berada di kalangan penduduk Sabah ketika ini. Justeru, mesti ada satu kesungguhan politik yang kuat dan perlu dilaksanakan oleh kerajaan termasuk melaksanakan cadangan Dompok,” katanya. 

Ewon berkata: “Kami berkongsi pendapat dengan Dompok bahawa kad pengenalan warganegara Malaysia sudah melalui banyak perubahan pengeluaran dan tidak ada sebab kenapa satu lagi perubahan drastik tidak boleh dilaksanakan untuk membolehkan hanya orang Sabah tulen sahaja mendapat kad pengenalan yang baru nanti”. 

“Ini adalah perjuangan berterusan kami. Sudah tentunya kami tidak mahu mewariskan masalah ini kepada generasi akan datang, sebaliknya kita mahu meninggalkan kejayaan penyelesaian masalah ini secara tuntas pada era ini supaya 50 tahun akan datang, generasi pada masa itu berbangga meraikan sambutan ulang tahun 100 Malaysia yang gemilang,” katanya. - New Sabah Times

PBS Sumbang RM20,000 Ketika Pembangkang Sabah Sibuk Berkempen

Parti komponen Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) menyumbang RM20,000 kepada Tabung Wira Negara. Sumbangan itu disampaikan Setiausaha Agung PBS Datuk Henrynus Amin kepada Timbalan Pesuruhjaya Polis Sabah Datuk Tan Kok Liang pada satu majlis di Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen Sabah di Kepayan Rabu.

Henrynus, ketika menyampaikan ucapan bagi pihak Presiden PBS Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, berkata sumbangan itu hasil kutipan untuk tabung berkenaan sempena sambutan ulang tahun PBD pada 5 Mac lepas. Beliau berkata PBS mengutuk sekerasnya-kerasnya pencerobohan bersenjata dan pembunuhan anggota keselamatan Malaysia oleh sekumpulan pengganas yang disifatkan sebagai kejam serta keterlaluan. - Bernama

Sumbangan dari SAPP dan STAR mana??

Sebelum ini SAPP pernah bagi sumbangan kereta jenazah dan pembinaan pondok perhentian bas.. tapi kenapa kali ini tidak ada sumbangan untuk pewira negara atau penduduk kampung yang terjejas ekoran Ops Daulat yang dilancarkan pasukan keselamatan di Felda Sahabat?? SAPP menabung untuk PRU13?? Bukankah pemimpin SAPP juga yang cakap kononnya penduduk kampung yang terjejas itu sedang mengalami kekurangan bantuan makanan dan ubat-ubatan??

STAR ada menganjurkan majlis makan malam sempena Tahun Baru Cina baru-baru ini di Donggongon yang kononnya dihadiri ribuan rakyat.. tentu majlis itu memakan belanja yang sangat besar.. tapi kenapa kedekut sangat untuk menghulurkan sumbangan kepada Tabung Wira Negara?? Bukankah STAR sinonim dengan slogan "Selamatkan Sabah Tanahair Ku"? So, berbaloilah jika STAR sumbangkan sedikit dana kepada Tabung Wira Negara atas peranan mereka menyelamatkan Sabah tanah air kita..

PBS questions Anwar’s silence on RCI’s evidence

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) vice president Datuk Herbert T Lagadan has also questioned opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s silence over the evidence presented to the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah.

“Why has Anwar been silent on the illegal immigrants issue and the Royal Commission of Inquiry’s proceedings so far? Is there anything he is afraid of?” Herbert asked.

The Kadamaian assemblyman also said that he supported Sabah Umno deputy liaison chief Datuk Seri Salleh Said’s call to get Anwar to testify in the on-going Royal Commission of Inquiry hearing.

“Being the Deputy PM and chief director of election operation in Sabah in 1994, he (Anwar) may have given instructions relating to phantom voters. To be fair to the real and true people of Sabah, both Anwar and former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir should be called to testify,” he opined.

All Sabahans should thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for setting up the Royal Commission of Inquiry, he said, adding: “Now we can see the ray of hope that there will be a solution on the problem that has plagued us for more than four decades.

“I, for one, am looking forward to the day when the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah is fully solved,” Herbert said.

Two days ago, Salleh challenged opposition leader Anwar to tell the truth about the illegal immigrants to the RCI tasked with looking into the long-standing problem in the state.

He asserted that Anwar was duty-bound to do so as he was Deputy Prime Minister at that particular period, adding that “he was a powerful man and knew what was going on in Sabah”.

“Don’t be a hypocrite, perhaps with the inside knowledge, Anwar can help shed some light … so tell the truth to the RCI. He must not play politics. At least (Datuk Seri) Najib (Tun Razak), our Prime Minister is prepared to seek the truth and approved the formation of RCI to identify the roots of the problem.

“We should not come to a conclusion and blame certain parties just because of statements by few ex-ISA (Internal Security Act) detainees. We should let RCI complete its works … What we want is a permanent solution,” he said after attending a meet-the-people session at SK Sembirai near here on Tuesday.

In this respect, Salleh, who is also State Legislative Assembly Speaker, said the people should praise and support Najib for his bold move to form the RCI.

“Once RCI completes its task then the government will study and act on it accordingly to resolve the matter once and for all.

“Those who were qualified and obtained their citizenship through proper procedure should not be punished and those who obtained it through illegal or dubious means must have their citizenship revoked. That should be the way,” he said.

Expressing confidence that the illegal immigrants’ problem would be resolved by the government under Najib, Salleh said genuine Sabahans must be patient to wait for a permanent solution.

The setting up of the RCI and appointment of its chairman and members was announced by the Prime Minister on August 11 last year to solve the problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

The commission was headed by former Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong. The panelists were Universiti Malaysia Sabah ex-vice chancellor Professor Datuk Seri Dr Kamaruzaman Ampon, Kuala Lumpur ex-police chief Datuk Henry Chin Poy Wu, former Sabah state secretary Datuk Kee Mustafa and ex-deputy Chief Minister and former state attorney-general Tan Sri Herman J. Luping.

Subsequent proceedings would be held on Jan 28 till Feb 1 and from Feb 22 till Feb 27.

Jimmy Wong wajar minta RCI ditubuhkan di Pulau Pinang

"KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), the victim of alleged election frauds by their comrades in arms, Umno, has been urged to leave the Barisan Nasional government now that it has been revealed that they were robbed of a resounding victory in the 1994 elections.

Siasatan belumpun selesai tapi Pengerusi DAP Sabah Jimmy Wong sudahpun mempunyai keputusan siasatan dan beliau minta PBS keluar meninggalkan BN Sabah? Siapa Jimmy Wong? panel RCI?

RCI ditubuhkan adalah atas usaha pemimpin-pemimpin PBS sendiri. Tujuan penubuhanya bukan untuk mencari salah siapa, sebaliknya untuk menyelesaikan masalah kebanjiran pendatang haram dan projek IC di negeri ini. Jika penubuhan RCI hanya untuk mencari salah siapa, baik tidak payah ditubuhkan. 

Ikhlas sangatkah perjuangan DAP Sabah terutamanya Jimmy Wong jika desakkan mereka terhadap sesuatu perkara terutamanya bagi kes-kes yang memerlukan penyelesaian melalui mahkamah hanya untuk mencari salah siapa? Bermakna selama ini DAP hanya mengharapkan supaya penubuhan RCI itu dapat membuktikan pemimpin2 BN terlibat dalam penyalahgunaan kuasa dan menyalahgunakan jentera-jentera kerajaan? Patutlah siasatan belum selesai, tapi mereka lebih dulu mendabik dada seolah-olah hasil siasatan ada ditangan mereka.

Penubuhan RCI itu sendiri membuktikan bahawa kerajaan BN bersungguh-sungguh dan ikhlas mahu menyelesaikan masalah ini. Jika kerajaan BN sudah tunaikan janjinya, untuk apa PBS keluar meninggalkan gabungan itu? Sepatutnya Jimmy Wong melihat sendiri pemerintahan DAP di Pulau Pinang. Bagaimana statistik penduduk di negeri itu berbeza dengan statistik pengundi?

Melayu = 42.05%

Cina = 40.92%

India = 9.67%

Lain-lain = 7.37%

Daripada statistik pengundi:

Melayu = 33.63%

Cina = 55.05%

India = 10.85%

Lain-lain = 0.06% + 0.05% + 0.34%

Statistik ini menunjukkan demografi penduduk dan statistik pengundi Pulau Pinang pada tahun 2010. Bagaimana pula dengan tahun 2011 dan 2012? Tentu bertambah lagilah jumlah pengundi-pengundi DAP di Pulau Pinang.
