SANDAKAN: Sabah has undergone tremendous development and progress ever since it gained independence through the formation of Malaysia 50 years ago, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman.
“This is the result of hard work and commitment of the State and Federal governments, especially under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, which had introduced holistic policies, initiatives as well as transformation programmes aimed to benefit the people of this country,” he said at the launch of the “50 years of Sabah’s Independence Through Malaysia” celebration and Sandakan Festival here last night.
The two events were launched by Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Haji Mahiruddin.
He said September 16, 1963 was a historic day as it was when Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya formed the Federation of Malaysia.
“And, I wish to stress here that the State government is committed to ensuring political stability, economic growth and social harmony in Sabah.
“And, we will continue to bring about more development and progress to ensure continued prosperity for the State and people,” said Musa who is also Finance Minister.
He also expressed delight at the existing unity, harmony and the spirit of camaraderie among the people.
“This is our strength and the key to peace, harmony and success. As such, we must ensure the existing unity and harmony are preserved and further strengthened from time to time.
“I believe that with unity and harmony, all government policies, programmes and agenda could be carried out for the benefit of the people,” he added.
On the Sandakan Festival, the Chief Minister said this event, organised by the Sandakan Municipal Council annually is now in the State tourism calendar.
And, he hailed the efforts to promote the culture and flora and fauna that are found in Sandakan.
“I urge the people of Sabah to continue to support efforts to promote the uniqueness of our flora and fauna to the world,” Musa said.
Also present were the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Seri Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin, Deputy Chief Ministers Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Datuk Yahya Hussin and Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah and other Cabinet members, assistant ministers as well as State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman.
