Namun yang menariknya lawatan Nurul Izzah ke Sabah menurut penulis blog berkenaan adalah bukan pada program Nurul Izzah di Ranau, sebaliknya berkenaan dengan perjumpaan tertutup yang disifatkan penulis sebagai perjumpaan sulit antara Nurul Izzah dan ahli-ahli Pakatan Rakyat bertempat di Yaho Hotel Sembulan Baru. Dua perkara penting yang berjaya didedahkan oleh blog DKMSabah ialah seperti berikut;

In line with its growing support across the country, Barisan Nasional (BN) is planning to go all out to retain Sabah in the coming general election, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Tuesday.

The Opposition has called Sabah the ‘fixed deposit’ of BN, but Muhyiddin pointed out that for BN the state is just as important as any other in the country.

“The BN has been serving the people for over 50 years and the people have developed their trust in us. We cannot fail them now,” he said.

BN has stepped up its efforts in the state, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak making it clear recently that he wants to be responsive to the concerns of all Sabahans.

In August he announced the terms of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigration, saying it would be given six months to complete its investigation on the influx of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

The RCI will investigate the number of immigrants in Sabah who were issued blue identity cards or citizenship, and whether this was issued to immigrants based on the law.

In political terms, Najib has stolen the Opposition’s thunder yet again. By showing that he is listening to Sabahans, and by giving them what they have been asking for so many years, he has taken away the Opposition’s biggest request and granted it to the people of Sabah.

Pakatan, meanwhile, predictably attacked the commission, claiming that the RCI was “toothless” and “too late”. The Opposition is naturally upset that the RCI would rob Pakatan of one of its key demands in the lead up to GE 13.

Yet Sabahans have Najib to thank for listening to their views and for making the RCI a reality.

The Prime Minister’s strong political will to deal with this contentious issue is expected to gain the confidence and trust of the people, and the federal Government’s seriousness in tackling the matter will help BN in maintaining its stronghold Sabah in GE 13.

Pakatan, on the other hand, is relying on empty promises and its failed defection strategy to get a toehold in the state.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim boasted that he would engineer a wave of defections from BN in Sabah – but unfortunately for Anwar and for Pakatan, the promised flood of defections turned out to be a minor trickle instead.

Only a couple of BN leaders of any note have signed up to Anwar’s camp in the past few months. Perhaps he should realise that courting opportunistic defectors in Sabah is a negative approach to winning the people’s support. Pakatan cannot ‘buy’ all the votes in Sabah, let alone Malaysia.

In July, Anwar was beside himself with glee over the defections to Pakatan of Wilfred Mojilip Bumburing and Datuk Lajim Ukin. This, Anwar cried, would be the key to Pakatan taking Sabah.

Sadly, the voters were less excited because they sensed that the two men had defected not because they were in tune with the aspirations of the nation, but because they sensed an opportunity for more power.

And the duo confirmed this within days when they revealed that rather than pledged their unqualified support to Pakatan they would both set up their own parties that will demand a big slice of the pie in return for their ‘loyalty’.

With its defection strategy in shambles Pakatan Rakyat has turned desperate in its bid to find some support in Sabah and Sarawak. In September, it resorted to an ill-thought pledge, promising the moon to voters in these states that the coalition has no hopes of fulfilling.

Labelled as the important-sounding ‘Kuching Declaration’, the seven-point pledge appealed to voters’ desire for autonomy without actually offering anything concrete.

Pakatan’s attempt at getting some toehold in BN’s bastions of Sabah and Sarawak will fail as voters prefer to choose on the basis of real policies and track record, not empty promises.

After all, Pakatan’s abysmal track record in the states it rules is there for all to see. The coalition’s desperate strategy will therefore have little or no impact on the growing wave of support for BN.
